What is a CPS test?

A CPS test is a simple tool that measures how many times you can click your mouse button in one second. CPS stands for clicks per second, and it has become the standard way gamers compare raw clicking speed. You start a short timer, click as fast as you can on the pad until it runs out, and the test divides your total clicks by the number of seconds to give you a single CPS number.

The test measures more than just speed — it reflects your hand control, mouse technique, and consistency under pressure. A click speed test is the quickest way to see where you stand, track improvement over time, and benchmark yourself against the averages that competitive players aim for. Because everything runs in your browser, there's nothing to install and no signup required.

How to use the click speed test

Our click test is designed to be fast and obvious. You can get a result in under ten seconds:

  1. Pick a duration. Choose any test length from 1 to 60 seconds using the selector above. Short tests (1–5s) reward pure burst speed, while longer tests (10s and up) measure how well you keep your pace under fatigue.
  2. Click the pad. Hit the big button to start, then click or tap it as fast as you can. A live counter shows your current CPS while the timer counts down, so you always know how you're doing.
  3. See your CPS and rank. When the timer ends, the test shows your final clicks per second and the rank tier it earns — from Beginner all the way up to Legend. Beat your best score and challenge a friend to a duel from there.

What is a good CPS? Average clicking speed

For most people, normal clicking lands somewhere between 5 and 7 CPS. That's the comfortable speed you get from calmly pressing the button without any special technique. Anything consistently above 8 CPS is genuinely fast, and the top players push well past that with practiced methods.

On ClickBattle your result maps to one of seven rank tiers, so you get an instant sense of how your speed compares:

  • FBeginner0–3 CPS
  • DCasual4–5 CPS
  • CSkilled6–7 CPS
  • BExpert8–9 CPS
  • AMaster10–11 CPS
  • SPro12–14 CPS
  • S+Legend15+ CPS

See the full rank tier breakdown for what each tier means and how to reach the next one.

CPS in Minecraft PvP

Nowhere does clicks per second matter more than in Minecraft PvP. In older combat versions, every click is a potential hit, so a player clicking at 10 CPS can land far more attacks than someone at 5 CPS in the same fight. Faster clicking also helps with comboing, blocking, and keeping pressure on an opponent, which is why CPS is one of the first things competitive players try to improve.

Typical PvP players sit in the 6–10 CPS range, while practiced players reach 12 CPS and beyond. To get there, most players move past normal clicking and learn faster methods such as jitter clicking and butterfly clicking. Each technique has its own speed ceiling, learning curve, and server rules to be aware of.

We break down where each method lands on the speed scale on our ranks page, so you can see what CPS each style realistically unlocks before you commit to learning one.

Click speed world records

Click speed records depend heavily on the test length and the technique allowed, so a single universal number is misleading. Over very short bursts of a second or two, top players can spike to extremely high CPS using drag-style techniques, but those numbers don't hold up over a longer test.

What's consistent is that the fastest legitimate clickers comfortably exceed 14+ CPS over a sustained test — a level most people never reach without dedicated practice. Rather than chase a headline record, a better goal is to beat your own best score and steadily climb the rank tiers on every duration.

How to improve your clicks per second

Improving your CPS is mostly about technique and consistent practice. A few things that help the most:

  • Use a responsive mouse. A lightweight gaming mouse with crisp, low-resistance switches makes fast clicking far easier and more accurate than a worn office mouse.
  • Fix your grip and posture. A relaxed claw grip with your wrist supported lets your fingers move freely and reduces fatigue during longer tests.
  • Practice in short sessions. Run a few timed tests, rest, and repeat. The daily challenge is a great way to keep a regular habit without overdoing it.
  • Learn a faster technique. Once normal clicking plateaus, a practiced method can add several CPS.

Frequently asked questions

What is a CPS test?+

A CPS test measures how many times you can click your mouse per second over a fixed period of time. Your result is shown as clicks per second (CPS).

What is a good CPS score?+

Most people average 5–7 CPS. Anything above 8 is fast, and competitive players using advanced techniques regularly pass 12 CPS.

Is the click speed test accurate?+

Yes. Timing uses the browser's high-precision clock, and an anti-cheat check filters out auto-clicker results so scores stay meaningful.

Does the test work on mobile?+

Yes. Tapping the screen counts the same as a mouse click, so you can measure your tap speed on a phone or tablet too.
